Glenelgi Broch kirándulás

Skóciai szállásunktól egy órás autóútra rejtőztek a Glenelg mellett található broch maradványok Glean Beag völgyében az Eas Mor Chul an Duin folyó partján. Odafelé gyönyörű tájon keresztül vitt az utunk, habár egy fokkal kevesebb eső sokat dobott volna a hangulaton. Glenelgen átérve a régi katonai út mentén jutottunk el az első, Dun Telve névre hallgató brochhoz. A broch csak Skóciára jellemző vaskori erődítmény, külső és belső fala között lépcsők vezettek a szintek között. Ez a konkrét építmény 10,2 méter magas és 18,3 átmerőjű  volt.

A következő broch körbenézése előtt beugrottunk a broch lábánál található a nagyon hangulatos Vagon kávézóba egy kis frissítőre.

A második broch, Dun Troddan legalább olyan érdekes volt, mint előző társa még így romos állapotában is.

Végül elindultunk a nap utolsó állomása felé Loch Alsh, Loch Duich és Loch Long találkozásánál található Totaig határába.

 Totaigba érve egyből a túlparton található híres Eilean Donan kastélyra nyílt kilátás.

Közel egy kilométeres séta után eljutottunk Caisteal Gruaig broch maradványaihoz. Ez közel sem volt olyan szemrevaló, mint az előző kettő, de a csodaszép környezet vette körül.

Trip to the Glenelg brochs

An hour drive away from our Scottish accommodation, sheltered in the Glean Beag on the banks of Eas Mor Chul an Duin river lay the ruins of brochs near Glenelg. Our drive took us across scenic area, our mood could have done with a bit less rain though. Crossing Glenelg we reached the first broch called Dun Telve, using a section of the Old Military Road. Brochs are a form of iron age forts only found in Scotland with stairs built in the hollow walls connecting corridors. This specific example measured 10.2 metres in hight and 18.3 metres diagonally.

Before checking out the second broch we popped in the very atmospheric Wagon Cafe right next to the broch itself.

The second broch proved to be just as interesting as its previous companion even is this ruined state.

Finally we took off to our final destination that day towards the borders of Totaig where Loch Alsh, Loch Duich and Loch Long meet.

Reaching Totaig the famous Eilean Donan castle came into sight on the other side of the lake.

After about a kilometer long walk we arrived to the ruins of Caisteal Gruaig broch. This one wasn't as easy on the eyes as the other two but its beautiful surroundings well made up for it.
